Lotions at Jysk - Whaaa?

Pure Dead Sea Hand Lotion – Coconut & Vanilla. 75 ml

I picked this up as an impulse buy at my local Jysk (sort of like Ikea..sort of). I was buying a shower curtain and was waiting at the checkout and saw this. It had coconut, mmmm good and vanilla, mmmm good. It was priced at $3.99 so I thought what-the-hey. Dead Sea minerals, hmmm???, isn’t that supposed to be good for you too?

I have found that this hand cream has been a favorite for the past month. I actually got a second one for my desk at work and carry the other one in my purse. I find it leaves my hand silky without feeling greasy. It feels a little ‘different’after I have it on for awhile, like I have a fine powdery coating on my hands but there isn’t any coating. It’s a ‘different’ feeling, not a bad feeling. It feels sort of like I rubbed face primer on my hands. I notice I am always rubbing my hands or fingers together after. Just cause it feels cool. LOL

I love the coconutty vanilla smell. On the back of the lotion it says: The sweet escape...so pure you can eat it. Well UMM yeah I could eat it. It smells that good. J

It contains vitamins A+E, Dead Sea minerals, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, grape seed oil and shea butter. It’s paraben, SLS and SLES free. Made in Israel. I had to go to the website to get the ingredients because the ingredient list on the lotion is so tiny I need a magnifying glass to see it LOL. Gawd I hate getting old.

While I was at the Pure Dead Sea website, I noticed they were selling the 75 ml lotion for $8.99 and the shipping was like $30. What? LOL I almost fell out of my chair. HAHA yeah PASS! Where is it coming from? The bottom of the Dead Sea by submarine? So if you are running into Jysk for a lime green toilet bowl scrubber or pine bookcase, checkout the Pure Dead Sea hand lotions at the checkout counters. They have a few other Pure Dead Sea products as well.

$30 for shipping HAHAHHAHA oh geez

Trending – Navy smokey eye

I have never been one to really follow trends because;

1) I am obtuse when it comes to trends.  I am usually a day late and dollar short LOL Hello Naked Palette.

2) Most trends do not appeal to me; I have to gradually build up affection for it. IE: this new tangerine is IN thing. Tangerine is not for me, but by summer I bet I will find something I like J

But what I have noticed this past month is the new navy smokey eye. A twist on an old favorite. I love navy eyeshadow. Navy works well with my brown eyes.

Classic Navy smokey eye: I was inspired by a tutorial Lisa Eldridge did recently. Click here to view. Lisa is one of the best MUAs I have seen. She makes it look so easy. I have to give this look a try.

Navy with sparkle: Lea Michelle at the Golden Globes. When I first saw her look I thought it was a bit harsh for her but by the end of the show I liked it LOL. Especially with the nude lips. Nic of the Pixwoos has done a wonderful tutorial on Lea’s look. Click Here to view it. Very beautiful.

Lea Michele @ 2012 Golden Globes

Gunmetal/blue with tightlined eyes: Emma Stone at the Golden Globes. Her look just jumped out at me. Loved it. Meredith Jessica of Pigments and Palettes did a great job recreating Emma’s look. Click here to view.

Emma Stone @ 2012 Golden Globes

And here is my attempt. I sort of tried Emma Stone’s look but I didn’t go as bold as I was going to wear this out shopping. Although the pictures do not show the silver I used, I liked it. One day I will figure this darn camera out!

What are your thoughts on the navy smokey eye? Are you going to give a whirl?

My First Glymm Box Jan 2012

So I finally received my first subscription box yesteday, the Glymm Box.

If you have been inundated with Glymm box reveals, I give you permission to jump now LOL
I had seen the Glymm box offered last summer but I thought I would wait to see what or how Glymm would perform before buying a box.

For those of you that don’t know what Glymm is; it is a for-Canadians beauty subscription box. It’s similar to the US Birchbox.

Okay here is the big reveal:

TADA!!!

Pretty pink box

The goodies inside (click to make extra large)

The insert (click to make extra large)

The only thing I have used so far is the Cargo eyeliner. It goes on very black and smooth, but it moves after a few hours. After opening the box, I immediately whipped out my mirror and slap some of this on HAHA. It was very dark and as I said before very smooth, no tugging at all for a pencil liner. But when I got home six hours later, I had a bit of transfer under my eyes. So I would recommend setting this liner with a powder eyeshadow.

The CARGO eyeliner
plus Bad to the Bronze Colour Tattoo (on lids)

First impressions: The packaging is beautiful. I will also certainly use the Vasanti face rejuvenator, which is a enzyme face exfoliater and the Anastasia eyebrow gel. Right now I am using clear mascara on my brows. The mascara works fine but I do notice my eyebrows get dry. So high hopes for Anastasia!

I gave one of the Burt’s Bees lotions to a co-worker J so I only have one to try. I like Burt Bee’s chap sticks and hand lotion so I am looking forward to see how moisturizing this milk and honey lotion is.

The Kaia bamboo cleansing clothes seems like a cool idea but why so expensive for a full pack? $17.99 for 30 clothes. I guess I should try it before bitching about it LOL.
Glymm, like other sub services, offers loyalty points. 10 points = $1.00. You can use these points in their store. As well, existing subs get reward points when other sign up for a subscription using their referral link. My referral link HERE :)
The Glymm Box will be available to the US shortly. Just create an account with Glymm and be the first to get notified when the US subscriptiona will begin.
Am I going to keep subscribing? Yep! I like being suprised although next time I hope I get mine earlier. It seemed like half the country got their box 4 days before me. Or maybe I will avoid the reviews..but I am such a nosy Nettie!

I also subscribed to Loose Button’s Luxe Box ($12/month) which I should start getting in February.  In addition I signed up for the TopBox.ca ($10/month) but that won’t come until May. Crap. So it better be good!!! I will probably forget about it by then HAHA

On another note, UK’s GlossyBox is now available to Canada for $15/month. Hmmm something to ponder. Nah I better try these ones first!

K now I am done HAHA

Colour Tattoos – So Bad So Tough

So I mentioned last week, in my Painted Purple post, that I picked up some more Maybelline Colour Tattoos 24hr Eyeshadows. I grabbed Bad to the Bronze and Tough as Taupe.
Bad to the Bronze  &  Tough as Taupe

Bad to the Bronze is exactly how I would picture a bronze eyeshadow to be.  This is what a goddess wears LOL ! It is creee-ammmyy. It transfers awesomely. And I can’t say how much I love the little gold flecks that run throughout.  It is luxe!

Bad to the Bronze  & Tough as Taupe

Tough as Taupe is a great base. I have to say I have been using this in place of my MAC Painterly paint pot. :O  I like how it is creamy yet has a matte appearance. You can layer it up to build up intensity. So easy to work with. I find using a sponge applicator makes it so easy to apply a smooth even layer of colour. I also use my ring finger to blend out the outer edges. And If I am so inclined, I will layer a complimenting shadow over top. It gives the powder eyeshadow a boost. If you love taupes, GO GET THIS!

Swatches
Bad to the Bronze  & Tough as Taupe

The staying power for these colour tattoos is amazing for a cream shadow. I swatched these on my arm at 10 AM and it is 9 PM now and they are still there. The intensity faded a bit, not a lot, but enough so I noticed. But how often does one wear eyeshadow on their arm? LOL They do fade faster on the eyelids. Probably from the oils. I noticed mine began to fade a bit around the 6hr mark. But I have been touching my eyes a lot lately. I have a stinkin’ headcold. Booo!!! But to make the colour tattoos really last I would use an eye primer. I didn’t notice any discernible creasing with these two shadows.
Would I buy again? Hell yeah. I wonder how these will hold up after a few months. I hope they do not dry out.

There are 10 colours all together. I passed on the tangerine, teal and green ones. Not for me. But I do want to pick up the Pomegranate Punk and Audacious Asphalt J
It is probably best to get these at Walmart/Target /CVS. I noticed the drugstores jacked up the price by $3-$4. I got these guys at Walmart for $6.97 CDN. Shoppers Drug Mart have them for $9.99 CDN :O.

Painted Purple - Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow

Hey everyone, I hope you had a great weekend!

Last Friday I returned a liquid liner (Relvon ColourStay) to Shoppers Drug Mart. It was horrible! It was watery and a very grey. Not the Blackest Black as the packaging promised! I think I got a dud. Turned me right off! L

Anyhooo, while I was waiting for the CR to ring through my exchange, I noticed the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyestudio 24hr Eyeshadow display. It had such a rich array of colours.

I was intrigued by the colours and the only tester I could see, Tough as Taupe, was gorgeous. It instantly reminded me of the consistency of my MAC Paint Pot. I had a $10 coupon for Shoppers Drug Mart so I grabbed Painted Purple. FREE!

Off I went back to work with my colour tattoo pot. I ripped it open right at my desk and swatched it on my arm. It was pretty pretty pretty! It’s a beautiful shade of purple and has a teeny little bit of sparkle. But it didn’t go on as intense as it shows up in the pot. When I swatched the Tough as Taupe it went on more creamy and had more full coverage. Painted Purple seemed to skim the top layer of the derma and didn’t go into skin. Does that make sense?

But I thought I would play with it more when I got home. After about 3 hours, I remembered I still had the swatch on the back of my hand. It was still as if I just swatched it and when I rubbed my finger across the swatch there was no movement of the pigment at all. None. These suckas ain't going anywhere!

Painted Purple

So this morning I had some errands to run. When I was getting ready I thought I would test it out a bit. I just used my finger to swipe it on my eyelids and crease, no primer. Then I set it with some light purple eyeshadow from my Sephora Smokey Eye kit. Nothing dramatic as I was going to Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Don't want to scare the Sunday townfolk! Haha.

My feelings on Painted Purple? BEE-U-TEE-FUL colour but it didn’t go on as intense as I hoped. But it didn’t put me totally off the Color Tattoo shadows as I bought 2 Tough as Taupes and a Bad to the Bronze. LOL :P Reviews to come on them later. I am such an addict...

Review: MAC Holiday 2011 Ice Parade Snowglobe Eyeshadow Palette in Warm

*************************************
If you haven't already, check out my Giveaway !

*************************************
As I previously posted, I gave myself a little Xmas present – a bag of MAC. Wrapped it up and put it under the tree HAHA! Take that Santa! I was at my dad’s for Christmas and he was handing out the presents. He thought it was pretty funny.
When I was at the MAC counter, I had a hard time deciding between this Warm palette and the Sultry palette, which has more mauves and purples. But I chose the Ice Parade Snowglobe Eyeshadow Palette in Warm.

Of the six eyeshadows in the Warm palette, my favourites are Patina (permanent line), Magical Mist and Buckwheat. The first colour I tried was Buckwheat and my first thought was Holy Shit this Damn Good! Smooth, easy to blend, great colour payoff. Then I tried Midnight Flurry and my excitement deflated. It is the only true matte of six shadows and it was chalky and hard to blend. You can see it in the swatch. I really had to work it; layering and blending. I finally got pissed off and damped my brush to get it to show up right. LOL Then I tried Patina and was happy again. Although in the pan, it looks totally different than Patina, Magical Mist is very close in colour to Patina, just a tad greyer. I use it as an upper crease colour to soften out Buckwheat. Winterscape barely showed up and I had a bit of fallout on my cheek. Gaelic Gold is a very pretty yellow gold and it did go on creamy smooth.

For $45, I think it I was expecting perfection but I do really like 3 of the 6 colours. But then I could have just bought 3 colours I really liked for $45. ~~sigh~~ Oh well. The snowglobe on the top is cheesy. I would have preferred a flat top but hey my nephew liked playing with it HA. The little brush it came with is a decent brush. It’s soft, dense and makes creating defined lines easy. Is it sad that I more impressed with the little palette brush that Midnight Flurry?
All in all, I am okay with the Warm palette. It didn’t knock my socks right off but they slouched a bit HAHA.

This is the look I created using the Warm palette. I used Painterly Paint Pot as a base. Patina in the inner corner. Gaelic Gold in the center of my lid. Buckwheat as the major crease colour, with Midnight Flurry as the crease defining colour. Blending the upper crease out with Patina. Winterscape as an inner eye highlight. In the picture, the colours are washed out. In real life, I had a ton of eyeshadow on. For some reason, I cannot take ‘true’ pictures of neutrals looks. Perhaps I need a different base?
My dad had observed me working on this look. He had asked if I was going somewhere. I said no just creating a natural look with my new palette. My dad’s comment on the MAC Warm Palette: That’s a lot of money to look natural.
I thought that was funny, had to mention it :P
